Only A Memory

by Alexandra Andreopoulos

Nostalgia hits under the oak tree

On a perfect day

Footprints of ink over my street

They spell out your name

Moments appear to me like a puzzle piece

in the shape of your heartbeats

Take a peek at the good times

you wish were forever long

Now turn the pillow

Don’t try to wake

Because your dreams are the perfect place

Sleeping at night

Entangled in day

The memories start to slip away

How can you be here

If I can’t see you next to me

Is this real or only a memory?

Known it’s the past, but feels like a present

open me up, then take me out of it

Say you’ll remember me

But it’s only a memory

As I slowly forget

tomorrow it will wash away

The sun shines through the curtains on my face

and it’s another day
