Parole Stirate Con Cattive Abitudini (Words Ironed With Bad Habits)

by Francesca Guarducci

Maybe loving too much becomes harmful,

Or maybe it’s the kind of love,

The kind where we would rather argue with the person who makes our blood boil

Than make love to another

Where we both want to bite the air that remains between us

The kind with words as sharp as blades

And silence that swallows the words left unsaid

The ones that remain stuck between sobs in our throat

Words that sting like a lemon peel on an open wound

Words that chase and scratch each other

Words thrown out too quickly

To win and hurt

Before being hurt

Words like thorns on a fragrant rose that penetrate the skin until we bleed

Words that slip slowly like poison and paralyze us

It’s the kind of love where even in anger that bittersweet taste that we recognize and love still

remains

And so we stay

Even when the kisses taste like a storm.

We stay because underneath there is a language that only we know,

That only we understand, and speak.

We stay because in the storm we feel real.

Not perfect

But alive

We stay because it’s a love where the kisses alone strip away resentment

and wash away anger the same way rain washes away asphalt.

Forse amare troppo diventa nocivo,

Parole tirate fuori troppo in fretta
